1st District Win vs. Chiles
On a very humid night, our Trojans bested the visting Timberwolves 2-1 in a rematch of the previous Friday preseason match. The game was played at a high intensity level and the bigger and stronger Timberwolves had control of the game. However, our boys held strong and in spite of being a bit smaller, they never gave up on any ball. The Timberwolves struck first on a header by Stephen Eppinger off a corner from Eric Frohlich. However, John Reddick came up big toward the end of the 1st half with a shot from the top of the box that slipped just under the Chiles keeper. The half ended 1-1. After the intermission, Coach Molina moved Jarrod Ingram up to forward and this ended up paying off in spite of the fact that it left our defense with very little experience, yet our rookies took a huge step forward this night. While Chiles tried and tried to come up with the game winner, Lincoln continued to be dangerous on the counterattacks. Chiles hit the post, had several break aways, but could not capitalize. On a play where Chiles almost scored, they got pulled up a bit too much and Cesar Vera got a quick pass from Lucas Williams and took down the left side on a fast break. He played it to Jarrod Ingram who drew defenders on him and intelligently slipped back to Cesar who then finished a beautiful left footer in to the far post. But the game was far from over and our Trojans had to withdstand a pretty furious wave of attacks by the Timberwolves, including a very close header during the waning seconds by Stephen Eppinger. A very important win for our boys, who begin the season 1-0 in District play. Go Trojans!
